THE FRIDAY NOTE (27TH FEBRUARY 2026)
Dear Parents/Guardians,
February has been another incredibly busy and productive month in school, and we have an action-packed few weeks ahead before we finish for the Easter Break on Friday 3rd April 2026. There is plenty to look forward to as we move into the final stretch of this term.
I hope you find the following information useful.
WORLD BOOK DAY
Next week, our classes will be engaging in a range of fun and creative activities in the lead up to World Book Day, which we will celebrate on Friday 6th March. We’re really looking forward to celebrating a shared love of reading across the school. As part of our celebrations, staff will be sharing photographs of themselves with their favourite books - and the children will have the challenge of guessing who is who!
We also encourage children to dress up as their favourite book character on Friday of next week. We can’t wait to see everyone’s outfits!
This year we are tasking everyone to decorate a potato as a book character for World Book Day. You can find lots of inspiration online for this and we can’t wait to see the finished products. There will be prizes for each class! Children should bring their decorated potatoes to their class next Friday morning. Thank you.
The Parents’ Council have also set up a Costume Swap Shop ahead of World Book Day. Please feel free to donate any costumes you no longer need and, equally, to take what you would like from the rail at collection time. Members of our Eco-Council will be manning the shop from this afternoon and from Monday to Wednesday next week.
SCHOOL CLOSURE
A reminder that school will be closed on Thursday 5th March to facilitate staff training.
PARENT–TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Eldest children will receive their Parent-Teacher Interview times today for the week beginning 9th March. Just a reminder that school will finish earlier that week (from 1pm) and the school bus will run at 1pm.
From Monday to Wednesday of that week, I will be running Beauty and the Beast rehearsals until 3pm each day. A waiting club will be available for any children who need to remain in school until 3pm- this will operate as a drop-in provision.
BINGO EVENING
The pupils of the School Council have organised a fun Bingo Evening for Friday 13th March at 6pm in the School Hall. This event is for parents and children and will raise money for new sensory tools and toys for our Den, as identified by the children themselves.
Entry is £5 per person and we will also be holding a raffle on the night. If anyone is able to donate raffle prizes or items for the evening, we would be very grateful for any contributions. Tea and coffee will be served during the event.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE BOOK - ROBERTA
The Celebration of Life book for Roberta will be available for parents to sign throughout next week. Thank you to those who have already called in to share their memories and messages. The book is available in the main entrance area of the school.
CHOIR PERFORMANCE
Children in our school choir (P5-P7) have been invited to perform at the Armagh City Hotel as part of a conference organised by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council: Peace in Practice. The children have been working incredibly hard and this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our school community.
Permission forms will be going out today with the children involved. Please ensure these are completed and returned by Monday morning.
SCHOOL TRIPS
We have lots of exciting trips coming up over the next few weeks. P7 will take part in their BeeSafe workshop on Tuesday - please ensure payment is made via ParentPay before Tuesday.
Our P5 and P6 children are also busy participating in Shared Education trips with our partner school, St Malachy’s PS. These are valuable opportunities for collaboration and shared learning.
Please keep an eye on the calendar section of the school website for details of all upcoming trips and events.
UPCOMING CLASS ASSEMBLIES
If you ever have any questions or concerns, you’re always welcome to get in touch with me or your child’s class teacher via Class Dojo or you can catch me at drop off or collection time. For safeguarding concerns, please contact Mrs O’Braonain directly at aobraonain211@c2kni.net.
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
