The Friday Note (15.05.26)

THE FRIDAY NOTE (15TH MAY 2026)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I hope that everyone has had a lovely week. I know it is hard to believe but we have just over six weeks left of this academic year! This is always an extremely busy time for primary schools, with lots going on. I hope you find the following information useful.

A PLACE FOR TREASURES

Over the last number of weeks, our Nursery children have been working alongside Armagh County Museum to create a book entitled A Place for Treasures. This morning, it was a privilege to accompany them, along with the Nursery staff, to the book launch. The Lord Mayor was also in attendance and commented on how fantastic our Nursery pupils were. It was also lovely to see some of our Nursery parents there to support the event.

SUPPORT EVAN

On 10th May, past pupil Evan Hughes ran the Leeds Marathon to raise funds in memory of his friend, Stan Conroy. Evan and Stan attended Saints and Scholars together from Nursery. Sadly, Stan passed away in March 2020, aged 13. Evan completed the marathon to raise money for Brain Tumour Research in memory of his brave friend. If you would like to donate to Evan’s fundraiser, please do so by clicking here.  Well done, Evan!

GENERAL CLASSROOM ASSISTANT VACANCY

We are currently advertising for a permanent Classroom Assistant position at our school. The successful candidate will be supporting in P1 from September 2026 and will also assist with lunchtime and club supervision. The hours are 9am-3pm, Monday to Friday. The application form can be downloaded on our website.

Please feel free to share this with anyone who you feel may be interested or suitable for the role. The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Thursday 21st May 2026.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

Next week is curtain-up for this year’s school production! As shared earlier in the week, children in Nursery-P2 enjoyed a special highlights performance this morning. Children from P3-P7 will enjoy the show on Wednesday at the 11am matinee performance. A very limited number of seats remain for both shows, so please grab yours before it’s too late. You do not want to miss this one!

The effort that the children have put into the show has been phenomenal and Mrs Harrison, Mrs O’Braonain and I are so proud of each and every member of the incredible cast. We know that next week is going to be an exhausting few days with rehearsals and performances at the theatre, as well as a Saturday rehearsal tomorrow (from 2-4.30pm). We therefore understand if children involved in the show wish to take Thursday 21st May off school. Their attendance will not be affected.

P3-P7 Non-Cast: Please ensure parental permission for the trip to the theatre to see the show is completed on Parent Pay by Tuesday at 12 noon.

Refer to the following item on Parent Pay: ‘Non Cast Members BATB Matinee Show’

An item ‘BATB Cast Only- Donation towards pizza’ has been added to Parent Pay for tomorrow’s rehearsal. Please let Grainne know today if your child has any dietary requirements. We will see all cast at 2pm.

BOOK FAIR

We have changed the Book Fair opening times slightly to accommodate the children involved in the show. Children involved in Beauty and the Beast had an opportunity today to purchase books and stationery. Otherwise, the Book Fair will be open as follows:

Payments can be made in cash or by card using the QR code available at the Book Fair. If you are unable to attend, you can send money into school with your child and give it to your child’s class teacher. Classes will also be timetabled to visit the Book Fair during the school day.

Just a reminder that the school receives free books based on Book Fair sales, so we would encourage parents to support our Book Fair where possible. Thank you!

BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Just a reminder that school will be closed on Friday 22nd May, Monday 25th May and Tuesday 26th May. We will be open as usual on Wednesday 27th May.

ATTENDANCE

Please ensure that children’s absences are reported via the link on the school website on each day of your child’s absence. Please use the current link that is on our website- the previous link has been removed. It is crucial that we are aware of the reason for your child’s absence and that this is communicated to school as early as possible each day.
