The Friday Note (05.06.26)

THE FRIDAY NOTE (5TH JUNE 2026)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope everyone has had a great week. It has been another busy and exciting week in Saints and Scholars, with lots of opportunities for our children to learn, achieve and celebrate success. From sporting achievements and special visitors to preparations for Sports Day, there has been a lovely buzz around the school!

I hope you find the following information useful!

SPORTS DAY

We are very excited for our annual Sports Day on Monday 8th June 2026. Timings for the day were shared in last week's Friday Note:

Our Parents' Council will be serving spectating parents with tea, coffee and refreshments. Please bring some spare change to donate to our Parents' Council. Spectators may also wish to bring camping chairs to enjoy the races from. Pupils can wear sportswear or their PE kits on Monday, whichever they would prefer.

SCHOOLS OF SANCTUARY

We shared our exciting news about becoming a School of Sanctuary on our social media platforms this week. On Monday, assessors visited our school after reviewing a substantial portfolio of evidence that had been prepared for them. They commented on our welcoming ethos and described Saints and Scholars as a "shining example of a School of Sanctuary." We are incredibly proud to have received this recognition. Our school is a place of happiness, respect and love, where children demonstrate friendship, kindness and care towards one another each and every day, regardless of difference.

P1 AND NURSERY INFORMATION MEETINGS

School is closed to pupils on Monday 15th June to facilitate staff training.

On this day, our Nursery and P1 parents for September 2026 will be visiting school to meet their child's class teacher and find out how they can support their child over the next few weeks in preparation for starting Nursery or Primary 1.

The Nursery information session will begin at 9.00am, with the P1 information session beginning at 10.00am. These sessions are for parents only. Children will have an opportunity to spend time in their new class later in the month and further details about this will be shared on Monday 15th June.

BUILDING WORKS UPDATE

We have been eagerly awaiting a replacement mobile classroom for our P2 class for some time and are pleased to announce that work has now begun. Groundworks to prepare for the new classroom will take place over the coming weeks, with the main building work continuing throughout the summer.

Our current P2 children in Mrs McGeown's class will move into their new classroom from the beginning of September. As most of the work will take place during the summer holidays, we hope disruption to school life will be kept to a minimum.

SWIMMING GALA

The Apple Blossom Swimming Gala took place on Wednesday 3rd June at the Orchard Leisure Centre. This was a fantastic event and the pupils who took part represented our school brilliantly. We are so proud of them all.

Congratulations to the following pupils who won medals in their respective races:

Thank you to Mr Bourne for supervising at the pool, Julie Bolton for her work preparing the children for the relay races and Lisa Carberry for her support poolside on the day. Thank you also to all the parents who came along to cheer on the children.

SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE FOR ROBERTA

On Thursday 11th June, we will be holding a special Service of Remembrance for Roberta. The service will take place in the assembly hall and will begin at 11.00am. Parents are welcome to attend.

As our pupils will also be present, seating will be limited. Doors will open at 10.45am and seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. A small number of seats will be reserved for invited guests. Thank you for your understanding.

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST

A recording of our production of Beauty and the Beast is available to order. An item has been added to ParentPay and orders will close at 3.00pm today. Those who have paid £10 by this time will be sent a secure link to watch the show. Anyone within our school community is welcome to order a recording of our spectacular production.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT

Our Parents' Council are holding another fantastic Family Fun Night on Friday 19th June from 6.00pm-8.00pm. There will be something for everyone, including bouncy castles, football fun, crafts, tattoos, live music, Reptile Rascals, an ice cream van, a chippy van and On The Hoof.

Entry is £5 per child and adults go free. All activities are included in the price, excluding food vans.

A raffle will also take place on the night and we would greatly appreciate any donations of raffle prizes. If you would like to donate, please leave items into the school office by Wednesday 17th June.

Thank you for your continued support. We can't wait for another brilliant evening together.

ATTENDANCE

Please ensure that children's absences are reported via the link on the school website on each day of your child's absence. It is important that we are aware of the reason for any absence and that this information is communicated to school as early as possible each day.

SCHOOL UNIFORM RECYCLE INITIATIVE

It's that time of year again when our Parents' Council organise our School Uniform Recycle.

This year, we would really appreciate it if all uniform items could be left on hangers and placed on the rails at the front of the school. This will save our Parents' Council a considerable amount of time sorting and organising donations.

All uniform items and wellington boots are welcome.

Once donations have been collected and organised, we will let everyone know when the Uniform Recycle will officially open.

Thank you for your support!

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

If you ever have any questions or concerns, you’re always welcome to get in touch with me or your child’s class teacher via Class Dojo or you can catch me at drop off or collection time. For safeguarding concerns, please contact Mrs O’Braonain directly at aobraonain211@c2kni.net.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
