This week, Primary 4 are looking at division. This can be quite a tricky concept for children but there are a few tips which can help:
- Firstly, start off small - revise x2 tables and practice doubling and halving.
- Secondly, build on last week's learning (x4 tables) which was essentially a doubling of x2 tables. i.e. 2 x 10 = 20 doubled 40 = 4 x 10. Division by 2 and 4 will work in the same way. i.e. 40 ÷ 2 = 20 halved 10 = 40 ÷ 4
- Finally, work your way through the examples of division by sharing into EQUAL parts.
Work your way through this PowerPoint activity through the week. Don't try to finish it all at once, as it's quite long!
