Primary 7RB

Welcome to the P7 class page.

We'll begin the year studying 'Earth & Space', learning all about the planets in our Solar System and what makes our planet Earth so unique that it can support life. The highlight of the topic will be a trip to Armagh Planetarium. This topic always lends itself to plenty of fun scientific investigations and we've booked James from Sentinus to come in and take the class for a STEM Flight Workshop.

After the Halloween half-term holidays, we'll be studying the beautiful country of Japan. This ties in nicely with our Novel study of 'Kensuke's Kingdom' that we'll be reading in Literacy. We'll study the physical and human geography of the country along with looking at the animals that inhabit its mountains, and the extreme weather and geographical forces (typhoons, earthquakes & tsunamis) that affect the region.

In term 2, we'll be going back in time to discover how the Romans became such a powerful civilisation and conquered much of the known world at the time. Then after half-term, we'll be studying the famine in Ireland and its legacy.

In term three we plan to study the 'Environment', focusing both on our local environment and habitats, to environments on an international scale.

Throw in daily Numeracy and Literacy lessons; PE lessons with Healthy Kidz and various other expert coaches; RE - learning all about the various world religions and confirmation class for those who did their First Communion; PDMU, ICT and Art, and we have all the ingredients for a fun and educational final year in primary school.

In addition, those pupils that have chosen to take the Transfer Test will be working extra hard until the December, when the tests will finally be done.

On the sporting front, we'll hopefully get to enter plenty of tournaments in various sports throughout the year and the Apple Blossom Swimming Gala in May.

All of this hard work will be rewarded with a 3 day / 2 night residential trip to Shannagh-More, Newcastle in term 3, when I guarantee great memories will be made!

Then, at the end of June, there'll be the usual tearful goodbyes from all of our P7's in our always emotional leavers' assembly, followed by a fun-evening, with a massive water fight to finish off the year in style.

First day back treat!
