School Therapy Dog

At Saints and Scholars, we have a therapy dog in training called Hamish!

Hamish is a standard poodle puppy and he’s currently undergoing training to become a fully certified therapy dog with the PAWS Therapy Dog Team! This training ensures that Hamish grows into a calm dog who can support children during therapy interventions when he is ready.

For now, Hamish comes to school once a week (on a Friday) and if he’s not out for a walk, he can be found relaxing in Mr Scott-Mulholland's office. When on the move, Hamish is always supervised and kept on his leash at all times. The purpose of this is for Hamish to become familiar with the school environment.

We’ve got no shortage of children who eagerly volunteer to accompany Hamish (and Mr Scott-Mulholland) on walks on a Friday but not everyone may want to do this. If your child has a phobia of dogs, if they have an allergy to dogs or if you’d prefer your child to not accompany him on walks around school, please let Mr Scott-Mulholland know via email on ascottmulholland193@c2kni.net and he can ensure that appropriate mitigations are put in place.
