Busy Explorers in Nursery.

23rd Apr 2026

Today the children have been busy exploring, investigating and creating across lots of different areas. We spent time carefully observing our caterpillar cocoons. One of them was wriggling today, so we are watching closely and waiting excitedly to see the butterflies emerge any day now.In creative play, the children used toy vehicles dipped in paint and rolled them across paper to make tyre tracks. This helped them explore mark making, patterns and cause and effect, as well as developing hand-eye coordination and early writing skills. In the sand tray, we used funnels and a range of different containers. The children enjoyed filling, pouring and comparing sizes, learning about capacity and volume, and using language such as full, empty, more and less.Outside, we explored bubbles using bubble wands. This encouraged coordination, turn taking and observation skills as the children watched and chased the bubbles. We also used rollers and paintbrushes with water to paint the wall and wash off our chalk drawings. This involved lots of large arm movements, helping to build shoulder strength and control, which is an important step towards developing pencil control later on.A really busy and enjoyable day of learning.
