Learning about owls in P1NR

22nd Jan 2024

As part of our topic on birds we have been learning about owls. We discovered that an owl’s eyes are fixed in their sockets, so in order to see, they have to move their whole head. To get an idea what this is like we made binoculars by encircling our eyes with our hands.

We also made cups with our hands to collect sound like satellite dishes on the side of our heads. This helped us explore how owls hear.

Lastly, we noticed that a Tawny owls have feathers that look like the bark on a tree (camouflage). We made owl pictures by rubbing crayon over the bark on the tree.
